FAQ

Who is it for ?

EVERYONE

Clients come for Craniosacral therapy for both physical or emotional problems

Some of the symptom’s clients come to me with include:

~ Migraines ~ Tension headaches ~ Stress ~ Menopause ~ Bereavement ~ Acute anxiety ~ Trauma ~ Jaw tightness ~ Tennis elbow ~ Irritable bowel ~ Birth trauma.

Some clients may feel that they have hit a brick wall and their body is struggling with many issues, some come due to a specific injury.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and non-invasive, subtle process, suitable  for everyone from new-borns to the elderly.

What to expect during a session?

During the first session a written case history is taken. Listening with care to the reasons for your visit, this part of the session is important both for gathering information and to establish a good understanding of each other.

The session typically lasts an hour. You remain clothed and will usually lie face up, on your side or you may be seated. Light contact is made with your feet, head, the base of your spine, as well as other areas.  This encourages your body to relax and begin to make the changes it needs. Because the body functions as a whole, I may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur. You are treated as an individual and sessions spaced out according to how your system reacts to the process.

How many sessions are recommended?

There is no set number of recommended sessions as everyone will recover and heal in their own time.  I usually recommend a minimum of six initial treatments as the nervous system will take a few sessions to fully re balance and for the treatment to unfold.  Everyone is different though and I will discuss your treatment needs in your initial session.

Very young babies and  simple physical issues, such as twisted ankle or toothache may only need one or two sessions. Sometimes people report great relief after one or two sessions. For long standing problems further sessions may be needed. Some people find they benefit from regular treatment over an extended period and say that as well as noticing improvement in the physical or emotional symptoms, they feel they have more awareness of their own needs and strengths and their quality of life has improved.

How long is a session?

Most sessions are 60 minutes long, however I recommend an 80 minute session to start with to enable enough time to take a medical history. Sometimes for young babies, although a 60 minute sessions is booked less time will be needed, as we don’t want to overwhelm them.

What will I experience in a session?

People receiving Craniosacral Therapy report a wide variety of experiences in most cases they are left feeling deeply relaxed.

Other experiences are:

  • tingling sensations

  • wave like sensations

  • twitchy muscles

  • sense of harmony and peace

  • feeling balanced

  • increased energy

  • more in touch with the current moment

  • seeing different colours and patterns

  • getting in touch with emotions

  • remembering past events

What should I expect after a session?

After a session there is occasionally a short period of adjustment as part of the healing process where you may become more aware of symptoms.

I recommend drinking plenty of water and listening to your body. As well, if possible, trying to avoid alcohol the same day you have a Craniosacral session. You may feel tired after a session and this is completely normal, although some people also feel more energised.

You may feel a little emotional following a treatment -this is very normal. Although we tend to think of our bodies in a more physical terms the body is in constant state of changing emotions so any event that leaves an imprint in our system will have an emotional connection and sometimes releasing it can mean you temporarily revisit some previously trapped emotion.

Sometimes people report relief after one or two sessions. For long standing problems further sessions may be needed. Some people find they benefit from regular treatment over an extended period and say that as well as noticing improvement in the physical or emotional symptoms, they feel they have more awareness of their own needs and strengths and their quality of life has improved.

How much is a session?

The cost of each session depends on the length you have booked and also which clinic you have booked in. UK rates and Romania rates are slightly different please check my rates on my website.

Do you do home visits?

In some circumstances I can do home visits. If you are unable to get to me at my clinics, please get in touch and we can work out how and where the best place to do a treatment for you is.

I am seeing a Counsellor/Psychotherapist can I have Craniosacral Therapy alongside this?

Yes, absolutely Craniosacral Therapy can really help and support talking therapies.

I do not like physical contact can I still have Craniosacral therapy?

Yes,  I understand that for various reasons some people do not enjoy having physical contact, although any touch is extremely light, I can easily work off the body or  we can discuss where I put my hands and whether that feels comfortable for you, please just let me know.

I have difficulties lying on a couch can I sit up?

Yes, please just let me know of any difficulties you have lying on your back. I usually ask people to lie down on the couch ,if this is not possible you can lie on your side or sit up. I will use additional pillows to make sure you are comfortable

Can I have a treatment during pregnancy?

I can treat all stages of pregnancy however I would recommend considering waiting until you have had your first scan at 12 weeks.

I would like to bring my child but worried they cannot keep still

Children have different needs and may need to move around during a treatment. You're welcome to bring your own audio CDs, books or toys or even an iPad to make them more comfortable. If your child needs to run around the room, I can work around them.

If your child is under 11 you will need to stay in the room with them, over 11, although I recommend the first few sessions an adult being in the room after that it is up to you and the child to decide if you stay in the room, however an adult will need to stay on site.

I am in the UK where are you based?

I have a regular clinic in Bucharest, Romania; however I also hold clinics in the UK throughout the year, these include in Marlborough, Salisbury and London and can come to you if further afield. Please get in touch for more information and dates.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you have to change or cancel your appointment for any reason please give at least 24 hours notice.
